HGTV's " Dear Genevieve"

The craftsmanship and expertise that John and Dean brought to this kitchen renovation was exceptional.  The final result surpassed both my expectations, as well as the homeowners’.  Not only did they create a custom cabinet design for this kitchen, but they were able to execute it under short time constraints.  They were accommodating and understanding of the unique challenges that working in TV presents, and their professionalism made them wonderful to work with.  I hope to be able to collaborate with them again in future episodes of Dear Genevieve.

The Dear Genevieve Story

Back in August, 2009 The Dear Genevieve Show contacted us about possibly designing and fabricating a small kitchen for them.  The show was to air in March, 2010, but they had only 1 ½ weeks to get the kitchen designed, fabricated, and installed.  It was quite a challenge!

To further complicate matters, the cabinets needed to be painted and custom color.  None of our cabinet manufactures could possibly fabricate and deliver cabinets in such short notice.  If we had any chance of meeting expectations we had to go to a local millworker.  Dean Crandley of Barn Star Custom had worked with us in the past to produce fine cabinetry so he seemed like the natural choice for the job.

Together we developed a schedule and mapped out a timeline that had to be followed if we had any chance of delivering product on schedule. The kitchen was designed based on hand renderings that Genevieve had sent us.  We produced CAD drawings and had them approved that next day. Color choices were decided and Dean was given the approval to start the cabinetry.

Like many projects, this one had a snag.  Unfortunately, Dean’s father had passed away that same day. Dean agreed to continue with the project and between burial arrangements, the wake and the funeral Dean was in his shop making cabinets.  This project would have never been finished on time if it wasn’t for Dean’s dedication and integrity.

The cabinets were actually delivered a day ahead of schedule.  Granite was selected, a faucet and farm sink was chosen and the install crew was busy installing.

The final result was very interesting.  Unfortunately, due to confidentiality regulations we cannot show them to you until the showing is aired in March.  So stay tune.
